US Citizenship Test Study Guide: 100 Civics Questions
The US citizenship (naturalization) civics test is an oral exam where a USCIS officer asks up to 10 questions from a pool of 100. You must answer 6 correctly to pass.
Test Format
During your naturalization interview, the officer will ask you up to 10 civics questions from the official list of 100 questions. The questions cover three main areas:
American Government (57 questions) — Branches of government, the Constitution, rights and responsibilities, federal system
American History (30 questions) — Colonial period, the Revolution, the Civil War, recent American history
Integrated Civics (13 questions) — Geography, symbols, holidays
Study Strategy
1. Learn All 100 Questions — While you only need to answer 6 of 10, the officer can ask any of the 100. USCIS publishes the complete list; memorize all of them.
2. Understand, Don't Just Memorize — Some answers change over time (current President, Senators, Representatives). Make sure your answers are current.
3. Group Related Questions — Study the three branches of government together, historical periods together, and geography together.
4. Practice Out Loud — The test is oral, not written. Practice saying your answers out loud, not just reading them.
5. Use Flashcard-Style Practice — TRY2PASS uses a spaced repetition approach — questions you get wrong come back more frequently until you master them.
